Meg Toohey's music has always defied easy categorization. A standout of Boston's vibrant early-2000s music scene, she signed her first record deal at just 18, As a songwriter, guitarist, producer, and arranger, Toohey has built a remarkably diverse career, collaborating with Grammy-winning songwriters including Sara Bareilles, Lori McKenna, and Josh Ritter; Broadway stars Gavin Creel, Shoshana Bean, and Cynthia Erivo; queer icons Jinkx Monsoon and Margaret Cho; rock legends including The Go-Go's, Cyndi Lauper, and Wendy & Lisa; and international artists such as Manolo Garcia and The Saw Doctors.

As an original member of The Weepies, Toohey helped shape the band's signature sound, crafting memorable guitar hooks and arrangements that contributed to their national success and chart-topping releases. Since then, she has established herself as one of the music industry's most versatile collaborators, touring, recording, producing, and arranging across pop, rock, folk, theater, and film.

Toohey's original songs have appeared in numerous hit television series, including Pretty Little Liars, The Vampire Diaries, Parenthood, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Army Wives, and Gossip Girl, as well as films including Sex and the City, Friends with Money, Morning Glory, and Last Shift. She has also composed music for Apple, The Fresh Beat Band, and children's programming for Nickelodeon and PBS.

A co-founder of the indie rock supergroup The Cold and Lovely, Toohey joined forces with musicians from Hole and The Smashing Pumpkins to create one of Los Angeles' most acclaimed underground rock bands. Her work has also expanded into musical theater, contributing orchestrations for Waitress and Wild About You, which premiered in London's West End in 2023.

Currently, Toohey is orchestrating the new musical Salem while producing her eleventh studio album and a new concept album slated for release in 2026. She also continues to perform internationally and will be touring in early 2026 with LABIAHEAD, the all-female Radiohead tribute band. Whether on stage, in the studio, or behind the scenes as a producer and arranger, Toohey continues to push creative boundaries with fearless musicianship and a passion for music that connects across genres.
